1. Types of Emerging Technologies
From a business perspective, an emerging technology is a technology that is capable of changing existing contextual methods and dynamics, often by integrating digital resources with creative thinking and rigorous research and testing, to introduce new products, services, initiatives and events.
- Emerging-Technology Product : A physical consumer product that utilizes new technology. Eg. 3D printers.
- Emerging-Technology Service : A set of new technological processes, activities and systems that collectively meet a public or business need. Eg. Artificially intelligent public transport system.
- Emerging-Technology Initiative : An enterprise that utilizes new technology to tackle applied problems or social issues. Eg. Desalination projects to provide drinking water.
- Emerging-Technology Event : A planed gathering that utilizes new technology. Eg. WWDC
